Female Suspect Escapes Police Following High-Velocity Pursuit from Southern California into Mexican Territory
A woman previously residing at a female recovery facility in California allegedly took a stolen van and led a hours-long law enforcement pursuit ending with her traveling across the border into Mexico on Monday.
Vehicle Theft Reported from Sober Living Home
As stated in a police announcement, a second woman, the owner of the vehicle, 45, notified authorities that her gray minivan from 2004 was missing, along with her vehicle key. The owner, who manages two women’s sober living homes, named the alleged thief as Alyssa Wilson at Diana’s House Sober Living, situated approximately an hour’s drive of Los Angeles.
“My keys were stolen out of my house manager’s purse. I happened to pull up just as it was occurring,” she said, adding that the minivan is designated for the facility’s daily operations.
High-Speed Pursuit Unfolds Across Several Regions
Officials located the van about 19 kilometers to the north in a nearby city, where they tried to initiate a traffic stop, but Wilson refused to stop and sped away. She reached speeds of about 90mph on the State Route 118 until the pursuit proceeded into Los Angeles county. At that juncture, Ventura county authorities handed over the operation to the California highway patrol once Wilson entered the Interstate 405 heading south.
“This one is very unique in the sense of the road situation enabling drivers to persist on the freeway and prolong this pursuit,” said a spokesperson from the Ventura county sheriff’s office.
The suspect allegedly dodged all the spike strips deployed on the roadway by police, as seen in footage from above.
International Getaway and Aftermath Developments
The chase finally arrived at the international border by 1.30pm, leading to the CHP to terminate the chase due to legal limitations.
The vehicle owner stated on Tuesday that the minivan was situated in Tijuana, Mexico and that she was working with the authorities to recover the vehicle.
“Ultimately, I’m not concerned with the vehicle,” she said. “I’m relieved knowing she was not injured. The minivan is easily substituted.”

Walters, who has run the recovery residence since October 2024, acknowledges that the path to recovery from addiction and trauma is not always linear.
“This represents a psychological and addiction emergency,” she said. “There is a need for more support. It is essential to provide more resources for those that are struggling.”
“The recovery process isn’t always pretty,” she added.
